The Big Choir is a community fundraising choir that was formed in February 2016 with the aim of raising money for Cancer Research UK, and in particular The Crick Institute, a new research facility in Kings Cross, London.
Money is raised through weekly subscriptions from our members who come along to the sessions to learn some great songs, meet new friends and generally have a fantastic time. We've performed at several events and have enjoyed watching our members forge new friendships and grow in confidence whilst rehearsing for various performances and events. In 2016 we donated a fantastic £5,500.00 to Cancer Research UK. This total has been boosted through ticket sales and donations from venues who have asked us to perform for them. One of these was Spire Healthcare in Elstree where we had an amazing reception from patients undergoing cancer treatments, and their families.
Our target donation for 2017 is £10,000 and we're well on our way to achieving this. New members bring more revenue for the charity.
Our current membership is around 100 strong. Our choirs meets every Wednesday and Thursday evenings at either St Pauls Church in Winchmore Hill (Wednesday evening) or in the beautiful auditorium at East Barnet School (Thursday evenings). We're a really friendly group and love a good social!
We are here for anyone who loves to sing. There are no auditions, and many of our members haven't sung since they were at school. All we ask is that you are able to commit to learning the songs and harmonies to the best of your ability, and to come along to sessions as often as you can, preferably weekly so that the choir can learn as a group at the same pace. We perform modern pop but hope to try out other genres including gospel over the coming months.
We can offer a free taster session to anyone who would like to give us a try. Please email
